To the editor,
I would like to respond to Sid Jones’s letter to the editor regarding his concern about my ability to represent all of Greene County.
It is true that I was raised in Rippey, my wife and I belong to the Rippey United Methodist Church, and my family’s Century Farm is located just outside of Rippey. What is also true is that my work has connected me with people all across our county. Whether I was seeking their business or they mine, it has been a great way to meet many of the people who call Greene County home. It is also true that for the past 17 years I have lived on N. Locust St in Jefferson. My address makes me eligible to run for the District 5 open seat but I believe all supervisors have a responsibility to represent the interests of the entire county, not solely the district they reside in.
In addition, I want to address what was called my “rural agenda.” Insinuating I would only represent rural Greene County is simply inaccurate. Much of my running platform involves providing support for economic growth through encouraging manufacturing and service businesses to open their doors in Greene County. I intend to do what is best for ALL of Greene County representing everyone regardless of whether or not they live in town or in the country. I believe I have a unique perspective of BOTH Greene County rural and town living in order for me to best represent ALL of Greene County.
It is true that I am proud of the time I’ve spent working with the Farm Bureau, but I believe that their name provides some misconceptions. The Farm Bureau does not only work in the rural part of the country but also in urban areas such as Des Moines. They also happen to do a wonderful job of developing leaders for which I have personally benefitted.
I realize this letter is unlikely to sway your vote. I do hope that it answers some of the questions your letter may have raised for other voters. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding my run for supervisor. You can contact me most easily through my Facebook page “Peter Bardole for Greene County Supervisor.”
Thank you.
